About The Artist
My name is Robert Rodriguez. I am an abstract expressionist artist. My personal view on art is based on a strong, emotional connection through visualization, higher thought consciousness, color therapy and healing. These are principles essential to my design. Contained design principles versus structure that transcend existing boundaries in a creative visual way. I paint every morning and make use of the Arizona light that I believe infuses into the work.
After completing my studies in Fine Art at The University of Arizona in 1992, I visited many museums abroad and continued to work on my craft. In 2003 I completed 5 large-scale 7 foot abstracts for Dr. Frederick Suppe (Chair - Modern Languages , University of Lubbock, TX).
2007 was a breakthrough year when I created my signature piece "The Red Dragon". The original 5 panel "The Red Dragon” was shipped to the highly distinguished creative director Vinod Tonangi of New York City.
As an emerging self-representational artist, I originally worked in Advertising and Desktop Publishing. I eventually decided to abandon "Corporate America" and became a full-time self-employed artist and painter. It was the best decision of my life because it gave me limitless freedom to explore and create. The process of creation is intuitive; I like to infuse symbolic imagery such as the infinity symbol, leaves, trees and petroglyph symbols in my art to represent the complex yet organic nature of life.
I admire the works of several epic artists, which include: Warhol, Picasso, Matisse, Pollack, Hockney, and Van Gogh. Technique and discovery are essential to my style of working, as I believe most breakthroughs are through spontaneity and unleashed freedom. Currently my work is collected in galleries across the United States, mainly in California, Illinois, Florida, and New York. You can find my work on eBay, and worldwide via boundless gallery.
